u3a

Watford & District

Welcome to the Watford and District u3a website. We hope you find it interesting and realize that the u3a is a real source of pleasure for mature people not planning to get old.
We live, laugh and learn.

We hold a regular monthly meeting at 10am on the morning of the first Tuesday of the month at The Stanborough Centre, 609 St. Albans Road, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD25 9JL We begin with a short business meeting, followed by refreshments. A talk by a guest speaker normally starts at 11am. The meeting ends at noon.

Most activities are organised through Study Groups which cover a range of topics and meet on a regular basis, often in members' homes. Each group is financially self-supporting.

As well as our local newsletter, members may opt to receive the national Third Age Matters magazine.

Please explore the website to find out more and feel free to contact us if you need more information.

If you wish to apply for membership, please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact Us page.

The initials u3a stand for the University of the Third Age which originated in France in 1972, then started in Britain in 1982. The vision of u3a is that older people are happier if they have pastimes and ways of learning something new with friends who prefer not to vegetate. Everything in u3a is done by its members for its members. Membership of the u3a is open to all retired and semi-retired people. While there is an overview by the Third Age Trust, each u3a is officially autonomous and financially self supporting. All the activities of Watford and District u3a are organized by, or provided by its members for its members.
